Clip Description

In this clip you see my mini-lesson about how to pick our most "excellent" book. All students are at the publishing stage of their writing. I'm laying down all my different books out on the table and sharing my thought process about which book I should pick based on the rubric about the different kind of drawings and writing that they can do in their stories. I'm asking the students to base their choices on a rubric that shows that excellent books are ones that have letters, drawings with color, and letters, on every page.

Commentary

I think this mini-lesson went well. I was able to connect to the work they have been doing by saying that today it was time to do something called "publishing". My teaching focused on modeling the activity with my own writing and the students were actively involved as they helped me to pick out which of my pieces were "excellent".
