In the preceding clip, I introduce the closing portion of Writers' Workshop and then ask Aaron to share. In this clip, I simply set the premise for another student, Celia, and then let her share.
My intent with my closing was to basically summarize what had happened in writing workshop and show some of the growth that had happened as a result of the lesson and my conferring.
| TEACHER: | Celia also has her piece that she's going to share today. Her topic is that strange fire drill that we had at the Halloween Happening. So Celia also talked about why this was important, because we've had fire drills in school before. So why was this particular fire drill at the Halloween Happening important to her. Go ahead. |
| CELIA: | It was significant because there was a lot of noise. My ears hurt. It had never happened. As a child, I never saw a fire truck so close. The light was like floating in the air. The noise was in a high volume. It had never been so scary before. My stomach was flip flopping. There were a exciting thing to see a fire truck that close and I had a nervous waggly feeling. There were a lot of big red colors flashing. I saw it was like almost all red around. |

Okay. So Celia discovered as were talking that, yeah, we've had these other fire drills before but the fire trucks had never actually come when we had a fire drill at school before but they did come that night of the Halloween Happening and she'd never seen a fire truck that close before. She'd seen them passing on the street, she'd seen them from a distance but she'd never had a fire truck come to where she was in the time of an emergency. So she was shocked by the loud volume of the noise, by the lights flashing, it caused her stomach to be flip floppy and wiggly inside. So she had never seen a fire truck so close and that was why she discovered that this event was such an important thing to her. Let's give Celia silent cheers too. Thank you.
So I know that there were more than just those two that did this awesome hard work today, of this importance and this significance. It's something that we're going to continue working on as we worked towards publishing, really getting the significance or the importance in our narrative writing. |
